I get to sleep late and wake up to my mother barging into my room, yelling about the motherfucking bitch who works at the front office of our apartment complex.

“What’s wrong?” I say, sitting up groggily.

“They’re saying we’re behind on the rent and they’re evicting us. Fuckin’ asshole lying pieces of shit. That fat bitch at the desk with her hair in the little bun, Miss Look-at-Me-I’m-So-Fucking-Pretty… Tells me we have thirty goddamn days to get out.”

“So what do you want me to do?”

“Oh, you’re a little pussy like your father!”

She slams the door.

I follow her out into the living room. I’m only wearing underwear. I hate arguing in my underwear.

“What do you want me to do?”

“Go talk to the motherfuckers!” she cries. “Tell them you’re in school and you can’t be evicted.”

“I don’t think that’s going to work,” I say.

“Fine. Fuck you. I’ll go talk to them. God forbid I ever have a man in my life to do anything!”

She walks out the front door, slamming it behind her.
